Global warming is still seen as a phenomenon to be occurring ages away in some distant fiction of a high budgeted movie or novel, but it has many serious impacts on the world already. For starters, the average sea level around the world rose about 8 inches in the past 100 years and is expected to rise more quickly in the next 100 years.1 This can have disastrous effects on coastal areas, such as Bangladesh. The effects include flooding, erosion, lost habitats, and some countries may even disappear entirely.2

Humans have a huge part to play in causing global warming. If we want to make the world a better place, it’s time for us to make important contributions. In my opinion, these are some simple ways an ordinary person could take, to bring global warming down.

DRIVE LESS, WALK MORE.
This not only saves fuel and money but also helps to reduce Global Warming. Instead of driving, we could take a walk or use a cycle to reach our desired location. Both of these forms are very beneficial to us and also for the Earth.

STOP WASTING FOOD.
About 10% of energy in U.S.A is used in the food industry and about 40% of the food produced in the U.S.A is wasted. When food wastes, it ends up in landfill which in turn creates methane which is even more harmful to the environment than Carbon Dioxide.3 Actually eating the food we buy and donating food to the ones who don’t have food in their table can reduce food waste which will serve well to mitigate global warming.

TURN OFF ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES.
This is the easiest way to help reducing global warming. When you are not using an appliance, there is no need to have it turned off and to waste energy. This will lead to saving fuel through which we get electricity and increasing the lifetime of the appliances.

USE LED BULBS.
LED bulbs consume up to 90% less power than incandescent bulbs.4There is a large decrease in power expense due to LED bulbs using only a portion of incandescent bulb’s energy. Therefore, both energy and money are saved.

PLANT MORE AND MORE TREES.
This is the most efficient way to reduce global warming. More trees mean less Carbon Dioxide which leads to less increase of climate change. They not only take in Carbon Dioxide but give out Oxygen which is vital for human beings and animals to survive.

RECYCLE RATHER THAN USING NEW PRODUCTS.
Making new products from scratch require a lot of energy.  Recycling often saves energy because the products being recycled usually require much less processing to turn them into usable materials.5 Recycling also helps in reducing landfill.

SPREAD AWARENESS.
Letting other people know about the issue and encouraging them to take preventive measures is really helpful as well. Hosting programs or just writing about it on social media will help to share information about global warming.

Bringing small changes to our life can help save the earth. Humans need to start caring for Earth to make it a better and healthier place. If not eradicate, one act of awareness may at least slow the “apocalyptic warming”down.
